Mayo Youth Orchestra took take centre stage in Dublin

Members of Mayo Youth Orchestra are on the road to Dublin tomorrow, Saturday February 9, to play at the 18th Festival of Youth Orchestras at the National Concert Hall. This special festival has been honoured by inclusion in the Official Cultural Programme for the Irish presidency of the Council of the EU. Minster of State for European Affairs, Lucinda Creighton, will be guest of honour during the afternoon performances at the festival and Minister for Children and Youth Affairs, Frances Fitzgerald, will present the Achievement Award for 2013.

Bullying action plan will help tackle the scourge of bullying

Fine Gael TD for Mayo, Deputy Michelle Mulherin, has said that the Government’s new Action Plan on Bullying will help to tackle the scourge of bullying in schools across Mayo. Five hundred thousand euro has been ring-fenced to support the implementation of the plan this year, which will include a campaign on cyber bullying and the development of national anti-bullying procedures for all schools.

Applications for the grant have already been submitted by youth groups as well as other local organisations and are being assessed for consideration. Deputy Walsh is extending an invitation to all local associations of this variety to apply for the funding.

Minister Frances Fitzgerald to open The Vault Youth Space in Ballinasloe

The Minister for Children and Youth Affairs, Frances Fitzgerald will officially open The Vault Youth Space in Ballinasloe next Monday March 5 at 4.30pm. Formerly known as D’Cube, the space provided by Youth Work Ireland Galway for local youth services has recently been refurbished following extensive flooding damage during January 2011. Located in Marino Point, the facilities in The Vault include meeting and seating areas, pool table, table tennis, flat screen plasma TV, DVD player, XBox, Wii, and DJ box.
